Cape Town | Days 1, 2 and 3

Cape Town is a dramatic geographical marvel famed for its natural beauty, and your introduction to the city starts in the breathtaking suburb of Bantry Bay. Here, you’ll stay at an ultra-private Cape Edwardian mansion world-renowned for its extensive art collection and flawless service. 

Your mornings begin with the scent of sea brine and panoramic views of the ocean from your private terrace, while your evenings unwind in deep comfort. Throughout the stay, you will skip public access queues and get access to authentic, expert-led experiences that enrich your understanding of the city. 

Explore Kirstenbosch, the world-renowned botanical garden, alongside a leading specialist botanist, uncovering the evolutionary marvel of fire-dependent fynbos and the famous “Protea”. 

Experience a private tasting at Klein Constantia wine farm, an estate famed for its Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, with an expert sommelier in attendance. 

Enjoy priority transport to the crest of Table Mountain, where a private white-linen table is set up on an isolated overlook for a vintage champagne picnic. And look forward to a majestic helicopter ride that gives you a bird’s eye view of the city’s marvels.

On departure day, we leave Cape Town behind and follow the spectacular coastal curves of Clarence Drive towards Hermanus. Along the way, we’ll pause at Stony Point for an exclusive encounter with its colony of African penguins before taking a quiet walk through the indigenous gardens of Harold Porter. Lunch is enjoyed beside the waters of the Bot River Lagoon, with the option of a private wine tasting, before we continue along the coast to our secluded clifftop home in Hermanus. Here, white-linen sundowners overlooking the Atlantic provide a fitting introduction to our next home base.

Hermanus | Days 4, 5 and 6 

Hermanus occupies a spectacular position between the fynbos-covered slopes of the Overberg and the open waters of Walker Bay. Best known for the southern right whales that visit its coastline each year, the town combines dramatic coastal scenery with the vineyards of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.

You’ll stay at an intimate seaside retreat perched above the cliffs of Voëlklip. Individually designed interiors, secluded terraces and uninterrupted ocean views create the atmosphere of an opulent private beach house. Here, the sound and movement of the ocean provide a constant backdrop to three days of complete relaxation.

One day is devoted to a private exploration of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. You’ll meet the people behind its celebrated cool-climate wines and discover how maritime air, elevation and soil shape the region’s Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Tastings unfold at an unhurried pace, with time to appreciate the mountain landscape as well as the wine itself.

Between June and November, a privately arranged whale-watching experience offers the opportunity to encounter southern right whales in Walker Bay. Outside whale season, a guided walk or cycle along the Cliff Path reveals tidal pools, secluded viewpoints and coastal fynbos. Afterwards, return to your seaside sanctuary, browse the town’s galleries or simply watch the ocean from the terrace.

On departure day, we turn inland through the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, stopping for lunch at Mogg’s Country Cookhouse, where fresh farm produce shapes a frequently changing seasonal menu. From here, we continue through the Overberg towards Swellendam.

Swellendam | Days 7, 8 and 9 

Our journey continues deeper into the agricultural heart of the Overberg. We pause along the way for an olive oil tasting at Mardouw Estate. This is a beautifula experience, as you’ll also discover how the internationally recognised range is made from the 50, 000 olive trees. Once the tasting concludes, we’ll set off again, shortly arriving at our new home base.

Swellendam, South Africa’s third-oldest town, rests in a lush valley beneath the towering Langeberg Mountain range. It’s a gateway into another time, with the original 18th-century Cape Dutch buildings still beautifully maintained and fully habitable. A town of immense character and historical significance that’s begging to be explored.

You will stay at an exquisite country house: one that is celebrated for its lush manicured rose gardens and historic architecture. Its look and feel is defined by old-world grace. Crackling fireplaces and fine antiques add character, while country hospitality makes you feel instantly at home. 

In Swellendam, the focus is on slow discovery. Take a drive down the historic R60 corridor into the Kogmanskloof stone gates for an exclusive wine tasting at Jan Harmsgat Historical Estate, or visit the Drostdy Museum and immerse yourself in the early frontier stories of the valley. Prefer a morning of pure natural stillness? Enjoy an unhurried walk beneath the emerald canopy of the Marloth Nature Reserve.

Before we head further east, we’ll enjoy private access to a boutique distillery in Stilbaai (“Still Bay” in English). These pioneers of the fynbos gin will show you how mountain botanicals are used to create flavours that are impossible to replicate anywhere else in the world.

Wilderness | Days 10, 11 and 12 

The open road invites you over the dramatic Outeniqua Pass, one of South Africa's great mountain drives. As the road undulates, sweeping views reveal a landscape transformed. Pockets of fertile farmland and distinctive hop fields give way to the lush greenery of the Garden Route. Soon, Wilderness stretches into view: a wonderland of lakes, estuaries and dense forest, where the warm currents of the Indian Ocean nurture a more verdant kind of beauty. Rivers wind gently towards the sea, forest trails disappear beneath ancient canopies, and the natural world feels eternally close at hand. 

Your home away from home is an intimate five-suite guesthouse set directly beside the Wilderness coastline. Individually designed interiors, uninterrupted ocean views and immediate access to the beach create a private seaside sanctuary, where complete relaxation comes naturally.

Knysna | Days 13, 14 and 15 

A short 40-minute drive along the coast brings you into the historic timber and oyster hub of Knysna, where life slows to match the gentle movement of the tides. The entire town is shaped by a vast marine lagoon guarded by two monumental sandstone cliffs known as the Knysna Heads, which shelter the valley from the raw power of the ocean.  

Your new home is an exclusive seven-suite boutique retreat perched on a quiet hillside within a private indigenous forest. Individually styled interiors blend contemporary South African art with warm, homely comfort, while expansive terraces look across the lagoon towards the Knysna Heads. Plettenberg Bay | Days 16, 17 and 18 

Leaving the lagoon behind, the journey continues through a landscape of dramatic contrasts, where deep gorges and ancient forests lead towards the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay.

Your accommodation here is one of the true highlights of the trip: an ultra-exclusive forest lodge hidden high within the canopy of an ancient woodland. Elevated walkways weave through the treetops, while your private suite features a plunge pool and secluded viewing deck suspended above the forest floor. Complete privacy comes as standard. Before we reach our next home base, you can enjoy a walk along the spectacular suspension bridge at the Storms River Mouth. Then there’s a delightful step back in time at Marilyn’s 60s Diner. Operating as a quiet, beautifully preserved ode to 1960s Americana, this is both an eatery and a showroom of mid-20th century automotive design; a deeply nostalgic and charming experience all round. 

Cape St Francis | Days 19, 20 and 21 

Continuing east, you arrive in one of South Africa’s most ecologically significant regions. Cape St Francis is a globally recognised biodiversity hotspot in which fynbos-covered dunes, hidden wetlands and pristine beaches shape a landscape unlike anywhere else along the coast.

Your home is an intimate five-room beach house set directly above the sands of St Francis Bay. Each suite opens onto a private deck with uninterrupted views across the Indian Ocean, while an infinity pool appears to merge with the coastline below.
